Corrosion. Insulation. Compliance paths.
Every good rocker knows that ‘rust never sleeps’, but how much does corrosion cost the country, and how can this be reduced?
Although timber treatments protect timber, they can corrode nails, screws and other hardware used in building. A BRANZ research project is investigating the effects of different treatments on some common types of metal fasteners.
When different metals come into contact with each other, one is likely to corrode faster if they get wet, but there are ways to minimise or even prevent corrosion.
The selection and maintenance of building elements and materials is one situation where out of sight should not be out of mind. In many situations, corrosion and deterioration may be occurring that is difficult to detect or see.
