P. 62

 Medium-density housing
façades that remain weathertight and structurally sound over their lifetime.
The nal form of any future test is yet to be determined. However, it is fair to say that, given enough care and consideration, most claddings could be made to pass any given test. That still doesn’t mean they are the best ones to use on a given project.
Cladding systems that are less complex and are easily buildable, will generally lead to a higher chance of performing adequately over the long term. Similar thinking is discussed in Build 117, A façade to stand the test of time, and Build 145, Avoiding risky behaviour.
Ultimately quality is key
This research and any Veri cation Methods or tests that may arise from it provide a means of reducing the weathertightness risk on a construction project. The testing will show that, if constructed as per the test specimen, the façade can withstand the necessary loading.
The main challenge is ensuring the critical details are executed
properly on site, and this is where contractor experience and coor-
dination of the façade installation is critical. Mid-rise test specimen.
