The LBP Scheme has seen an uptick in practitioners applying for new licences and lapsed practitioners becoming licensed again. Welcome to all.

THESE ARE UNCERTAIN TIMES for the economy, and it is heartening to see practitioners turning to licensing to highlight their expertise in a challenging market and enhance their ability to pick up a larger range of work.

New building consent exemptions added to Schedule 1 of the Building Act came into effect in August. Some require homeowners to employ LBPs, which is a real win for LBPs looking to sell their services. Our first LBP knowledge article this issue highlights the exemption for building sleepouts and factors to keep in mind when building under the exemption.

The re-emergence of community transmission is a reminder we must remain vigilant and up to date with accurate information. Follow the government’s COVID-19 advice to keep yourself and others safe. Further guidance is available on the following websites:

The reactivation of alert levels is a reminder to be prepared should conditions change at short notice. This especially applies to workplace safety controls and processes. Construction Health and Safety New Zealand (CHASNZ) has developed COVID-19 Construction Protocols to help the construction sector adapt to the risk of COVID-19 transmission. These are relevant for LBPs as we work together to play it safe.

The LBP Scheme has developed resilience, and we do not expect significant disruption to day-to-day operations. Many of our people are able to work remotely, and we can undertake more of our assessments virtually.

In the case of Alert Level 3 or 4 lockdown, we may see delays in our mail system, so you to use the online portal if possible, and check your email address is up to date.
