In the last Build, we looked at airtightness, how to measure it and the positives and negatives of being leaky or airtight. Now we consider how controlled infiltration makes ventilation design easier and the resulting savings.
The flagship Kiwibuild project will need to rely heavily on medium-density housing to achieve its numbers. BRANZ has been talking to people across the building industry to identify issues that may hinder increasing its delivery
As awareness of the precious nature of water as a resource increases, ways of conserving and reusing it are in the spotlight. BRANZ is researching greywater reuse by looking at quality issues and legislative hurdles.
A life cycle assessment tool developed by BRANZ calculates the climate change and environmental impact of a building design, showing hotspots and causes. It’s an easy way for designers to work out how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a building.
Given their 50-year plus lifespan, buildings built today will ultimately need to function in a low-carbon environment. BRANZ is developing a national building carbon emissions profile to encourage carbon reduction.
