Design makeover for Scott Base
Specialist designers will be involved in an upgrade of Scott Base at Antarctica that will allow scientists to undertake crucial field work year round.
THE REFURBISHMENT, part of a 3-year project to enhance the base, will add three new internal laboratories, mobile laboratories, additional capacity for specialised external laboratories and other facilities.
Antarctica New Zealand has assembled a team of four to create four designs over the next 12 months as the current base reaches the end of its functional life.
They are:
● architecture – Jasmax-Hugh Broughton
Architects
● quantity surveying – Turner and
Townsend
● structural/civil engineering – WSP Opus
● building services – Steensen Varming. Euan Mackellar of Jasmax-Hugh Broughton Architects says he is looking forward to the challenge. ‘It is an incredible honour to be working with Antarctica New Zealand on the plans to redevelop Scott Base where we need to deliver high-performance
