Registrar’s update
Welcome to the latest LBP knowledge, now a well established part of Build magazine.
IN THIS ISSUE, you’ll see the second article in our exempt building work series and an article on sound insulation.
In our rst article in the exempt building work series, we discussed simple and easy to measure situations where you can carry out building work without requiring a building consent.
We’ve now followed up with more complex situations that don’t require a building consent. It’s important to under- stand where a building consent is necessary and where one is not. This will allow you to stay clear of trouble while also avoiding the hassle of applying for a building consent where it isn’t needed.
Sound insulation is becoming increasingly important as construction density increases in residential areas. It’s a requirement for multi-tenanted buildings – those with shared walls between two or more dwellings – to have sound separation that complies with the Building Code.
As we build more medium-density apart- ments and housing, this will become valuable knowledge. We explain some of the things you should consider in this article if you’re going to be detailing or installing sound insulation.
As we head into winter, make sure you stay safe. Frosts in the morning and wet days can make working at heights more dangerous, so you need to be vigilant.
Thanks for reading. Until next time.
